14. The millennium stone at Sultanahmet Square Istanbul was the zero meridian point of the world once upon a time. Kasikci (Kasikci) Diamond one of the greatest pieces of the world and is displayed in Topkapi Palace.
15. Three of the 10 remaining icons of the world and according to the belief of Orthodox, Jesus Christ’s cross on which he was crucified are in Hagia Yorghi Church.
16. Hereke which is in the world carpeting literature with the quality of the wool and silk rugs is n Izmit (kocaeli) Turkey.
17. Homeland of Iskender Doner (Shorma/Gyro) which is very famous all around the world is Bursa Turkey.
18. The philosopher Aristotales lived in Assos for three years.
19. Writing was first used by people in ancient Anatolia. The first clay tablets in the ruins of Assyrian Karum (Merchant Colony) date back to 1950 BC.
20. The oldest tin mine was found in Goltepe, 60 miles south of Tarsus.
21. Turks introduced coffee to Europe.
22. Lydia which is one of the greatest civilisation lived in Anatolia has still got some remains around Salihli (Sardis) and it’s the first civilisation which coined money. The oldest known human settlement is in Catalhoyuk Turkey (7
th Millennium BC). The number of species of flowers in Turkey is approximately 9,000 of which 3,000 are endemic. In Europe for instance there are 11,500 species. This shows the richness of flora and fauna in Anatolia.
23. The Best preserved Roman Theatre is located in Aspendos Antic City, Anatalya, Turkey.
24. The first University in history is in Harran, Turkey.
25. Anatolia is the birthplace of historic legends, such as Homer (the poet), Kung Midas, Heredotus (the father of history), and St. Paul the Apostle.
26. Istanbul has the historical building of Sirkeci Train Station. This was the last stop of the Simplon-Orient Express, “kings of trains and train of kings”, between Paris and Constantinople (Istanbul) from 1883 to 1977. Agatha Christie was one of these famous trains.
