Dalaman Turkey

Dalaman is a little town located at the Southeast Aegean shoreline of Turkey in the Mugla region. It is well known for its international airport, which provides a doorway for the millions of visitors who come to visit this part of Turkey every year, travelling to the east and west of Dalaman such as Oludeniz, Fethiye Marmaris, and Hisarönu. The new International airport is now the 2nd largest in Turkey with the capacity of up to 10million passenger numbers per year. For more information on Turkey’s airports see our inspection trip page.

Since the Dalaman Airport is opened, more and more visitors are attracted  to the natural and historical beauties around Dalaman. Especially the wonderful inlets, bays around Kapidag peninsula have always been spectacular spots for the blue cruise tours, Sarsala, Gobun, Bongus, Siralibuk, Tasyaka bays and Baba, Nar and Peksimet Islands are to mention...

With cool plateaus, bays with wonderful sceneries, rafting in Dalaman River, thermal baths, historical remains. The Dalaman region has a lot to offer to all kinds of nature lovers.

Dalaman also plays host to one of Turkey’s most spectacular series of Lakes. The area around 130 years old, Kapıkargin village of Dalaman is known as the region of lakes. Kocagol which is the largest and deepest (40 m) of 4 lakes, is formed by the alluvions barricading the bay from the sea; Badirnaz, Kargin and Kukurtlugol, connected to each other with canals. There are over 300 different plant species living around Kocagol and 23 of them are indigenous. There is even a small island looking like a vase fallen into the lake.

Dalaman is a region of natural exquisiteness. It is located in a place where it connects the sea and the mountains. Dalaman is rapidly turning into a place of destination rather than a stop over on the way to another resort town. New roads and streets and the constant development of the area and recent investment to the Airport are making it more accessible.

Dalaman has rapidly changed into an asset area where several Europeans are purchasing property with their savings in Turkey. The Dalaman town and has many shops, bars, restaurants and tea gardens and all are increasing rapidly due to the investments in the area. It also has its individual enormous natural beach. Even though it is not that well known, it is still amusing and hosts plenty of wildlife. There is also an underground tunnel that links the town of Gocek and Dalaman by reducing the journey to only a 5-10 minute drive.

When visiting the area it is important to also visit Dalyan, if you ever visit Turkey. You’ll enjoy seeing the Kaunos archaeologists sitting and inspecting the craved tombs in the Limestone Mountain while cruising along the Dalyan River. As you reach the shore, walk on to Iztuzu beach which 6th most popular beach in the world. It is 6km long and is thrived by the sea turtles. Iztuzu beach is a sanctuary for these sea turtles.

There are lots of antique sites around Dalaman

Lidai, Lissay, Crya and Kleopatra Hamam Kalynda and rock tombs at Kapidag, Lycian rock tombs at Gokdag and  Kayadibi, Hippokome antique site at Kavacik and Bozbel are worth seeing...

The Lycian antique site Caunos, Iztuzu beach, so called 'Turtle Beach', mud baths on Koycegiz Lake can be visited on a daily boat tour starting from Dalyan.
