The word Cesme literally means 'fountain' and of the many hot springs that can be found, llica is perhaps the most notable. Numerous thermal baths are complemented by the superb white sandy beaches, where the Altin Yunus Marina and Holiday Complex are situated. Water that springs up from below the seas at llica has a temperature of around 50 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit and contains an amazing array of properties including limestone, minerals, volcanic lava, sodium, calcium, irion, aliminium, bromide, fleur, sulphate, nitrate, chloride, potassium chloride and magnesium chloride. Although originally used as a cure for rheumatism and to provide soothing relaxation it is now known to help with conditions such as gout, rickets, metabolic disorders such as obesity, woman's diseases, tuberculosis, vervous diseases, skin diseases of the liver, kidneys and urinary infections. High-class accommodation, much of it on the coast, provides its own thermal spas inn Turkey for holidaymakers to enjoy. The Sheraton Cesme Hotel features a Botanic Thermal Spa. Thalassotherapy, a blanket term which describes a range of treatments including body wraps, hydro-massage, is offered and facilities include an indoor seawater pool, natural thermal pool, sauna, steam room, jet and affusion showers, physiotherapy area, fitness centre and beauty saloon. Sfine Bay, five kilometres north of Cesme, should not be overlooked. The waters found in this small peninsula can cure rheumatism, rickets, some woman's diseases, urinary infectins and intestinal complaints. Skin disorders such as eczema and psoriasis are treated in the mud bath situated at the bay, A group of investors have reportedly been planning a project named Cesme Wellness Town over the past five years. If the proposals that have been put forward are fully realised the congress centres, hotels, treatment centres and golf courses that would be constructed are set to make Cesme a jewel in the crown of the Turkish ministry of health and tourism's thermal tourism push. This would subsequently be a great place to buy property in Turkey. Sinan Tortum, a group of private tour guides in Turkey, commented: "Cesme has been little affected by the requirements of mass tourism and fortunately it has protected itself as a sleeping, little touched beauty. Now we believe that it is time for Cesme to emerge as a quality touristic resort, which will sell for a good price." Cesme now has excellent transport links with the city of Izmir. The 80 kilometres distance is covered by a highway. Izmir is a candidate city for Expo 2015. The implications of a winning the right to be host would also be positive for Cesme and allow more overseas travellers to experience the area's delights. International Exhibitions Bureau (BIE) general secretary Vicente Gonzalez Loscertales predicted that 17 million tourists could visit Izmir in six months if Expo comes to town. |
