Property in Fethiye: Real Estate Hotspots in Fethiye
Fethiye is set around an attractive natural harbour on a bay backed by mountains. The Gulf of Fethiye contains 12 islets and an ideal day out is spent on a boat trip touring the beautiful coves and islands with refreshing swim stops en-route. The nearest beach to Fethiye is Calis beach which is reached by boat or dolmus from the town centre and is ideal for families. Calis has a resting area for protected sea turtles. The town of Fethiye affords easy access to a range of nearby attractions. Oludeniz with its dramatic pine-clad hills has one of the most beautiful lagoons in the Mediterranean and is the most photographed beach in Turkey. An area of the lagoon is designated National Park. Oludeniz is now an important paragliding centre with gliders enjoying views over Xanthos Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The peak of the Babadag Mountains at 1975 metres is the launch point. Millions of butterflies come to breed in Butterfly Valley between June and September. Boats leave daily for the protected site from Belcekiz Beach in Oludeniz. Nearby Gocek is popular with yachting enthusiasts who come for its excellent marina. The resort offers a range of sophisticated hotels, upmarket restaurants and boutiques. Dalaman with its cool plateaus and stunning countryside is ideal for nature lovers. Fethiye as with Kusadasi and Altinkum makes an excellent base for visiting ancient sites. Fethiye is renowned for the local Lycian sites, many of which date back to the 7th century BC. Above the town is the site of ancient Telmessos. Easily reached from Fethiye are three other Lycian cities firstly off the coastal road towards Xanthos, the remains at Pinara, northeast of Fethiye is Kadyanda and 48km east of Fethiye is Tlos. Tlos is one of Lycia’s longest inhabited cities where you can also see ancient Roman remains. A visit to Tlos is often combined with one to experience the icy waters of the 18km long Saklikent gorge. The Lycian antique site Caunos can be seen on a boat trip to Dalyan; the site of Xanthos, the capital of Lycia during the 2nd century BC. At Dalyan you can sample the mud baths and visit Iztuzu Beach with the Loggerhead Turtle Reserve. For those who prefer to be active Fethiye is a big scuba diving centre with boat trips around the coastline leaving daily from there. For the more adventurous there is white water rafting in Dalaman River. 75km from Fethiye is Patara Beach, 18 kilometres of golden sand backed by the Taurus Mountains. You can ride along the beach and through the adjoining National Park. The nearby harbour village of Kalkan is also well worth a visit.
Fethiye boasts an old town with a maze of cobbled streets containing an abundance of vibrant shops, bars and restaurants. The Fethiye area offers all types of cuisine and is a fabulous place to be if you like fresh fish. Fethiye Market is held every Tuesday and is the biggest in the area, the ideal place to haggle with the locals and pick up those essentials for your Turkey property. Fethiye is lively by night as is the nearby resort of Hisaronu. All this combined with easy access to Dalaman airport mean that Fethiye has become a holiday and property hotspot. Property in Turkey: Property in FethiyeLife continues all-year round in Fethiye an area popular with foreign buyers with many British nationals having chosen to make it their home. There is a population of 60,000 with an increasing expatriate community including around 2,500 Brits. There are supermarkets, banks and a massive weekly market as well as two private hospitals with English speaking staff. Places to buy include Hisaronu and Ovacik, Calis beach and the village of Uzumlu. Fethiye has a good long-term rental market. 8km south of Fethiye and surrounded by forested mountains replete with pine trees are the neighbouring resorts of Hisaronu and Ovacik both well-liked property spots that benefit from a refreshing breeze. They are situated on the plateau between the Mendos and Babadag Mountains, overlooking the Blue Lagoon. By day you can stay in your Turkey property and by night venture into the centre of Hisaronu which has a lively nightlife and boasts some pretty wooden buildings. The peaceful resort of Ovacik is ideal for those who enjoy the countryside, a walker’s paradise with stunning views across the valley. There is great rental potential in Ovacik and Hisaronu. The picturesque setting of both and easy access to Oludeniz have attracted lots of foreign, namely British buyers. The resort of Calis 5km north of Fethiye has a waterfront promenade lined with hotels and apartments and is a well established holiday destination ideal for those who like a relaxed break. The resort now has a large expatriate community many of whom have retired there. There are restaurants and bars locally. From Calis beach which is 12km long and ideal for families you can enjoy superb sunsets and stunning mountain views. Calis is favoured by those who like a beach near their property as is the case on the peninsula near Cesme where stunning Aegean Sea views can be enjoyed. Calis is well served by bus services and boat dolmus from Fethiye itself. There is also high rental potential in the Calis area as it is a popular holiday destination. The beautiful village of Uzumlu which translates as ‘grape’ has become the place to buy for those buyers looking for rural environs for their Turkey property. It is an ideal spot for those who want to get away from it all but is only 19km from the amenities of Fethiye. Uzumlu lives up to its name as a variety of grapes are grown. The Fethiye area can be enjoyed throughout the year. A new ski resort is being developed in the mountains close to Fethiye which may lengthen the tourist season considerably and increase rental potential for property in the area as has been the case with property in Belek and Side given their ease of access to Saklikent Ski Resort.
