Russia increases gas delivery
Russian gas monopoly Gazprom has announced the increase of deliveries to Turkey by two million cubic metres to 40 million a day.
The news comes in light of the reduction of Iranian gas supplies after record-breaking low temperatures over the winter in the Middle Eastern country which borders eastern Turkey.
"Gazprom has increased its gas deliveries to Turkey through the Blue Stream pipeline to 40 million cubic meters per day," confirmed Gazprom in a statement.
As a result of the shortages coming under the Iranian border, Turkey received an extra 90 million cubic metres overthe contracted volume between December 25th and January 13th.
Russia sends gas to Turkey via the Blue Stream pipeline which was conceived in 1998.
Costing $3.4 billion (£1.73 billion), it transports 565 billion cubic metres of gas per year through the Black Sea.
