Bosporus Marmaray Tunnel steps closer
The ambitious Bosporus Marmaray Rail Tube Tunnel project enters a new stage tomorrow as the second tube of the Europe to Asia crossing is laid.The $3 billion (£1.5 billion) project will connect the shores of Istanbul to Asia via a 450 foot-long immersed tube tunnel, which will contain two train tracks to improve transport connections.Tomorrow sees the second of 11 tubes that will be sunk into the Bosporus since the first was laid in March this year.The project is scheduled to be completed in 2011 and will set a new world record, becoming the deepest tunnel under the sea by 50 feet at its...

Al Gore offers solution to Turkeys climate change
The former US vice president Al Gore is visiting Istanbul today to present a conference on global climate change.Well known for his strong views on environmental issues, as projected in his documentary An Inconvenient Truth, Mr Gore will speak at the Ciragan Palace. Turkeys heritage sites in need of protection

Turkish city bids for 2013 Mediterranean Games
Turkey will bid to host the 17th Mediterranean Games in 2013, according to an Anatolian news agency.The announcement was made by Turkish state minister Kursad Tuzmen from the southern city of Mersin – the city of choice for the bid. 200m trees to help fight climate change
Turkey has pledged 200 million trees per year to a world-wide tree planting campaign which hopes to avert environmental damage caused by climate change.
