Turkey's hidden energy sources

Turkey is gradually seeing an increase in domestic energy production and is becoming less reliant on foreign sources.Domestic crude oil and natural gas production both increased over the course of last year, reports Today's Zaman.Production levels of domestic crude oil rose to 8.7 per cent of Turkey's overall consumption (12.3 million barrels) from 6 per cent last year and natural gas was up to 2.6 per cent from 1 per cent (18.12 cubic meters).The Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) has been digging in areas near the Syrian border and there are now 25 wells in the region.Another area being...

Pipeline completed

The construction of a 300 metre gas pipeline which connects Europe with the Middle East has been completed.Hilmi Gueler, Turkey's energy minister, was present as the last phase of Turkey-Greece pipeline was finished, and announced that 250 million cubic metres of natural gas will be transported from the Caspian Sea basin, the Middle-East and Central Asia every year.An agreement between Turkey and Greece was signed by two state owned companies; Turkish Pipeline Company (BOTAS) and Greece's gas companies Depa and Edison.A projected 3 billion cubic metres are planned for transportation in future...
