Turkish government in 2008 tourism drive
Turkey's government has put plans in place to stimulate the country's tourism growth further in 2008 by promoting tourism and encouraging foreign investors to enter the property market.
Ertugral Gunay, the Culture and Tourism minister has announced the 'Four Seasons, 12 Months' initiative, which aims to cut "bureaucratic handicaps" in order to simplify the investment process.
The government also hopes to boost tourism as part of a wider strategy and has pledged £73 million to the campaign.
Mr Ertugrul Gunay said he was targeting raising awareness of the country's other attractions, apart from its good beaches and sunshine.
He said: "That is why we give priority to 'Four Seasons, 12 Months' tourism campaigns."
According to the Turkish Daily News, there is a government target to boost tourism from 20 million in 2007 to 25 million in 2008.
He was speaking at the World Travel Market tourism event in London.
