LATEST NEWS FROM THE KALKAN REGION
Positive impact of Kalkans ex pats
Britain's ex-pat community is thriving in the stylish meditarranean yachting town of Kalkan and is having a positive impact on the local community, one expert has suggested.
Pat Yale of Turkey's Today's Zaman newspaper has highlighted the beneficial financial affect of the Brits who have come to live in the place that boasts 300 of days sunshine a year.
He was also encouraged by the way in which different cultures have the opportunity to mix, with the growing number of those coming to live in Turkey from overseas.
"There are of course many positive aspects to the influx of foreigners," said Mr Yale.
He continued: "Undoubtedly anyone working in construction or in any of the industries linked to property purchase will have made rich pickings over the last five years.
"Theoretically, too, this has been a great opportunity for people from different countries and cultures to get to know each other."
Situated in a picturesque bay, Kalkan has been attracting tourists and overseas property investors alike with its blend of culture and nearby history, with the remains of ancient Lycian cities only a matter of miles away.
The Guardian has likened Kalkan to "the Italian Riviera minus the poseurs," while others have dubbed it 'The New Marbella'.
