New tour takes in history of Turkey
A recently-launched tour holiday promises to take visitors on a 16-day trip tracing Turkey's rich history.
Albatross Travel Group's Grand Tour of Turkey takes in landmarks of the past civilisations which occupied the country, such as the Romans, Greeks, Ottoman Turks and Anzacs.
The main focus of the trip, which starts and ends in Istanbul, are locations relating to the Ottoman Empire.
Travelling by coach, boat and plane, the journey calls at Canakkale, Gallipoli, Troy, Ephesus, Kusadasi, Marmaris, Rhodes, Pamukkale, Konya, Cappadocia and Ankara.
Describing some of the main attractions of the holiday, Albatross said in a statement: "Other highlights include the ruins of the ancient site of Troy, the thousand year old bazaar at Konya, the underground city of Kaymakli and Istanbul's Topkapi Palace and bazaar, the world's largest covered market with 4000 shops."
Cappadocia is a 'cave city' where the amazing sight of dwellings and temples cutinto the rock can be witnessed.
Kalkan is one place not on the tour which certainly merits a look for those interested in Turkish history.
The old fishing town has flourished into an up-and-coming high-end tourist spot with no end of potential and is situated only a short journey from the remains of nearby Lycian cities.
