Turkey Property Mugla province sees tourist numbers rise
The province of Mugla in southern Turkey has seen an increase in the number of tourists visiting during the first two months of the year.
In a statement released yesterday (Tuesday, March 4th) governor Lutfi Yigenoglu reported a 114 per cent increase in the number of people overseas staying in the province in the period compared to January and February in 2007, reports the Turkish Press.
Favoured destinations such as Gocek, Fethiye, Bodrum and Dalaman were visited by a total of 20,697 tourists, many of them British, Dutch, German, French and Greek, according to Mr Yigenoglu.
Gocek is one place enjoyed by those heading to the Mugla region. Building restrictions have meant a ban on high rise hotel constructions and charming guesthouses and apartments look down to marinas popular with the European yachting set.
The town is situated at the foot of the Taurus Mountains and less than 15 miles away from the international airport at Dalaman.
