Turkey Property Turkish Airlines joins Star Alliance
In a move that could see more flights to Turkey available for passengers, Turkish Airlines (THY) has joined the international Star Alliance.
The alliance of airlines includes some of the largest carriers in the world including Air Canada, Lufthansa and US Airways.
Temel Kotil, general manager of Turkish Airlines told Today's Zaman that the move would serve to "enrich Istanbul as it becomes a bridge of the global aviation business".
"In just 11 years the Star Alliance has become a large family and every member contributes its eminence and power to the alliance," added Star Alliance chief executive Jaan Albrecht.
"We have encountered no hurdle while accepting THY as a new member, and a very professional process started after their application," Albrecht said.
In 2007, Turkish Airlines one of the fastest-growing airlines in Europe, with an increase in both capacity and passenger numbers.
All members of Star Alliance work together to provide a high level of service to passengers and to collaborate on routes and connections.
