French Ambassador supports Turkeys EU bid
The French ambassador to Turkey has encouraged Turkey in its movement towards membership of the European Union.Bernard Emie told Tamer Taskin, the chairman of the Executive Board of Aegean Region Chamber of Industry (EBSO) in the Aegean city of Izmir: "The train is on the right track and continues its voyage."He added that "the French presidency will be honest and balanced," referring to the French chairmanship of the rotating presidency of the EU in the second half of 2008.The ambassador also said that the 2009-2010 winter season in France would be "Turkish Cultural...

Italy president supports Turkey EU membership
The president of Italy has hailed Turkey's efforts to join the European Union, saying that its ascension would increase "the common space of democracy".President Giorgio Napolitano added that Turkey's intention to join the union "represents a stimulus for Ankara to consolidate reforms that have already started and to enact measures necessary to comply completely with the EU's regulations".His comments follow a meeting with Turkey's president, Ahmet Necdet Sezer, in Rome, AKI news agency reports, where Ankara's role in UN peacekeeping in Lebanon was also praised.Mr Sezer...

Turkey on track to achieve EU standards
