Turkey Property Sweden backs Turkeys EU push
Turkey has received a boost on the way to EU membership, after Swedish prime minister Fredrik Reinfeldt lent his support to the campaign.
In a joint press conference with Turkish prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Mr Reindeldt declared: "Sweden fully supports Turkey's EU membership."
The two country's close relations have been helped by the 400,000 Swedish tourists that are thought to visit Turkey on holiday every year.
Mr Erdogan said Turkey had not wavered from its sole ambition of full EU membership: "Different approaches like privileged partnership regarding Turkey's EU membership distress our people.
"Turkey entered this process formally in 1963. If leaders of several EU member states make politics over Turkey within that process, it would be unpleasing."
Economic and cultural relations were also touched upon during the discussions. The Swedish PM noted the benefits to international trade as an area on which Turkey's application for membership would be judged.
