Turkey Property Turkey motor industry on the up
The production rate of Turkey's motor industry has seen a significant increase on the previous year, according to new reports.
Vehicle production hit 1.1 million in 2007, with an 11.3 per cent increase over the previous year, reports Today's Zaman.
The figures mean Turkey boasts the 16th highest production rate of motor cars worldwide.
The newspaper highlighted the commercial benefits the motor industry has brought to the country: "The Turkish automotive industry, which was launched in the 1950s with truck and off-road vehicle production for the military, has played a major role in Turkeys industrial development.
"Vehicle production exceeded 1 million last year, compared to only 11,000 in 1963. To this end, Turkey has a 1.5 percent share in world motor vehicle production."
Fiat, Renault, and Ford are all car manufacturers that have been involved with the development of the motor industry in Turkey.
