Property in Gocek: Real Estate Hotspots in Gocek

Turkey’s Mugla province is home to world-class yachting locations such as Fethiye, Bodrum, Marmaris and Gocek, a premier sailing centre which has gained a reputation as a hub for the glitterati. Gocek is a popular yacht charter base.

Gocek is situated at the north-western end of the Gulf of Fethiye and in common with nearby Dalaman is backed by mountains and extensive pine forests. Stunning views of the turquoise sea and twelve islands with their many coves and bays can be enjoyed from numerous vantage points throughout the village.

There are four marinas in Gocek: Port Gocek Marina, Municipal Marina, Skopea and Club Marina. Gocek has become a major stopover point for yachts and tours in traditional Turkish wooden sailing boats known as gulets. The marinas boast a range of excellent facilities including restaurants, bars and games areas for children.

Gocek hosts international events including the prestigious Port Gocek Regatta week. It is of course a highly desirable location for yachting enthusiasts however Gocek is attracting an increasing number of non-sailors drawn by its charm and stunning scenery.

The village centre is pedestrianised and has a number of sophisticated shops, bars and restaurants. In keeping with other resorts such as Bodrum on the pensinsula Gocek nightlife revolves around the many waterfront eateries and upmarket bars.

Gocek does not have a beach but is it just a ten minute drive from the picturesque Calis beach which is ideal for families. There is a regular dolmus/taxi service into Marmaris and Fethiye. Fethiye is a traditional market town with a natural harbour and stunning mountain scenery. The Tuesday market is the largest in the area and well worth a visit.

Close to Fethiye and easily reached from Gocek is the resort of Oludeniz which has one of the most beautiful lagoons in the Mediterranean and certainly one of the most photographed. Oludeniz is a major paragliding centre with gliders enjoying views over Xanthos Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Close to Gocek is the town of Dalaman which is famed for its lakes and verdant countryside. The new tunnel between Gocek and Dalaman has lessened the travel time between the two to around fifteen minutes.

Popular excursions from Gocek include visits to Dalyan to sample the mud baths only accessible by boat where you will pass many rock tombs. Also to Iztuzu Beach a nesting ground for the loggerhead turtle and home to the Loggerhead Turtle Reserve open from May-Sept each year.

Turkey is renowned for its Mavi Yolculuk which translates as ‘’blue cruise’ and is used to describe a sea journey on board a traditional Turkish gulet. As with other resorts such as Altinkum, Kusadasi, Kalkan , Alanya and Cesme there is no better way to experience the coastline than by boat. Boats leave daily from Gocek harbour and also from Fethiye to explore the bays and inlets often giving you the opportunity to have a refreshing swim stop en-route.

For lovers of history there is the opportunity to combine a boat trip with a visit to the sunken city of Kekova, the remains of a city submerged as a result of 4th and 5th century earthquakes. The boat glides over serene waters revealing columns and stairways leading to nowhere. You can also visit the village of Kale with its crusader castle and Lycian tombs.

Gocek is close to many historic attractions such as the city of Kaunos and the remains of the five Lycian cities in the Xanthos Valley. From nearer history is the deserted Greek village of Kaya where Anatolian Greeks made their homes until 1922, there are around 3000 houses there and at one point 25,000 people lived there.

There is plenty to occupy visitors to the Gocek area. Activities include: white water rafting in Dalaman River, scuba diving, water sports, fishing and paragliding. The rural mountain villages above Gocek provide stunning walking opportunities.

Gocek is a delightful resort with stunning views and excellent facilities that is gaining a reputation as the place to buy that special property in Turkey.

Property in Turkey: Property in Gocek

In common with Bodrum, Gocek is an important yachting centre with an enviable international reputation and one of Turkey’s most up-market resorts. The four marinas are a magnet for wealthy yacht owners; those pitching their yachts in Gocek include Demi Moore and Bill Gates. The resort has also been visited by Prince Charles and the former Turkish President Turgut Ozal who holidayed there.

This exclusivity is reflected in the property market where there is limited choice and prices are higher than in other locations. Prime property in Gocek is in demand and especially those giving easy access to the water’s edge. Gocek is a favourite with domestic and foreign sailing enthusiasts with many Turks owing holiday properties there. New developments often sell quickly to the local market.

Gocek property also holds appeal for those beyond the yachting fraternity. It is a charming resort with some lovely seaside restaurants. The promenade is lined with shops, bars and restaurants that serve everything from traditional Turkish to gourmet cuisine. There is a supermarket on the main square for all those essentials for your Turkey property. Every Sunday the market in Gocek attracts locals and tourists alike who flock to buy fresh produce, household goods and clothes.

The annual Port Gocek Regatta week is a prestigious event that attracts high numbers of competitors and yachting enthusiasts. This is an ideal opportunity to let a Gocek property at a premium rate.

The Turquoise Coast of which Gocek is part enjoys sunshine all summer between May and November therefore there is a long rental season. Long lets to both expatriates and Turks working in the yachting industry are possible. Gocek is just 20 minutes from Dalaman airport further increasing its rental appeal.

There are no high-rise hotels due to strict building laws rather there are a few small hotels that are in keeping near the marina, meaning that Gocek has retained its tranquil village atmosphere in a similar way to both Kalkan and Kas.
