Chartering a yacht is one way in which the modern and old, a perfect reflection of Turkey, is achieved in cool winds and warm sun. People from around the world head to Turkey and hire a yacht as not only is it often cheaper than in the UK and other countries, but one can see pine forests, ancient ruined cities and modern nightlife on such a cruise. Yet while sailing is one of the oldest ways of seeing Turkey, a yacht is fully modern in what it comes equipped with. Hiring a crew will see one able to lounge on board the deck soaking up the sun or stopping to go for a dip in warm waters while the crew take care of maintenance and other work. A chef will cook meals and for those keen to fish in the Mediterranean, will even cook what has been freshly landed. After a meal, one can head towards land to hire equipment for watersports or even take some on board to go diving or on a dinghy. Visitors have praised the staff on their yachting voyages, particularly as staff highly knowledgeable about Turkey's history and geography can help enlighten the holiday. For others though, it is a chance to have an undisturbed deck in the middle of bright, clear waters and the chance to catch up on books and other leisure activities long put aside by work. Yacht charter firms recommend that visitors bring casual wear; non-slip footwear, a swim suit, a sun hat, t-shirts and shorts, a jumper as evenings can be cool, blue jeans and strong footwear as excursions can be on land. They also state that several smaller bags rather than one big suitcase are easier to store in the cabin and of course, don't forget to take a towel. Cruises last anywhere from four days to two weeks and involvement can be anything from crew doing everything to you giving a hand with sails. Menus and drinks can be planned in advance as can the travel itinerary. Although costs vary depending on the quality of yacht and the amount of people travelling, a chartered crew of captain, cook and sailor is typically around US$400 (£202) per day, which when split between six is only £34 per day, significantly less than the price of a hotel room in most European cities. However, if you do not plan to travel with five friends, cabins on yachts can also be chartered, ensuring that one not only gets the benefits of a remarkable cruise but can get to make new friends in a new country too. Most yacht firms are happy to discuss personal arrangements in advance to ensure that a yacht holiday, or even just a four-day spell in a longer break in Turkey, goes as smoothly and is as enjoyable as possible. |
