Most firms even offer transport to and from hotels so that you do not even have to worry how to get to the balloon.

Once up, many people think that hot air ballooning in Turkey is one of the highlights of their trip due to Cappadocia's unique landscape. Flights, which cost in the region of around £100 per hour, take visitors to snowy peaks and canyons and above the human wonders of caves and grottos.

People still live in Cappadocia's caves, formed centuries ago to protect Christians from invaders, carving their homes from the volcanic rock that only stopped belching fire 4,000 years ago. The 'fairy chimneys', as they are known, were used as places of meditation by hermits and are notable attractions when hot air ballooning in Turkey.

A skilled pilot allows the balloon to drop between these chimneys, so low that some have reported that locals are startled as they go about their daily business and those who have been said that it was well worth the money. So skilled are some operators that they boast that their passengers can pick ripe apricots from trees as they fly on their journey.

For a flight, hot air ballooning in Turkey tantalises many senses, from the touch of gathering fruit to the feel of the gentle breeze and sun on the face to the kaleidoscope of colours and sites visible on the ground. The trees of Cappadocia come in a variety of hues, even in the same season, while floating just a few dozen feet from a towering minaret gives many a balloon's passenger a certain thrill.
