Turkey Property | Sport in Turkey

Sport in Turkey

With its large and varied landscape, sunny climate and rich history of activity, Turkey is an ideal spot to engage in a sporting activity.

Often cheaper than equivalent opportunities in the rest of Europe, Turkey still offers the same quality of equipment and opportunities as its rivals.

Horse riding is an ancient sport in Turkey, with Anatolia being the location both where great empires like the Hittites and Ottomans arose and others such as Alexander the Great and the Persians crossed on their steeds. Now a more peaceful locale, both masterful equestrians and first-time riders are catered for at Turkey's riding schools.

With stunning scenery to trot through, thousands of tourists have enjoyed the thrill of trekking through the Anatolian countryside and ranches, either just for a day or for a whole dedicated holiday.

Another ancient practice that still offers the contemporary visitor a challenge is hunting. Everything from bears and chamois to goats, wolves and boars can be legally hunted in Turkey, again with experienced guides who can offer quality equipment or take out those who arrive with their own hunting gear. For those less inclined to kill but still up for the thrill it brings, paintball and archery are also popular activities to be found near most resorts.

Yet target-based sports are not for everyone, so it is natural that the world's most popular sport is well catered for in the fields of Anatolia. Galatasaray, Fenerbahce and Besiktas are some of the biggest names in Turkish football, with 102-year-old Galatasaray skilful enough to have lifted the Uefa Cup without having been beaten, a rare event and sign of the quality of matches one can watch in Turkey.

Other more tranquil sport in Turkey includes fishing, both in the mighty Anatolian rivers or in the Mediterranean and Aegean. Hiring a boat for the day, or even a yacht with a chef, allows the angler to catch from the bountiful sea and cook their catch.

If the ocean is not to your taste, or if you wish to see more of Turkey, the mountains are the locations for several types of exciting sport in Turkey. From mountaineering to paintballing, there are different ways to see the outside. For those who like to take things up a gear, quadbiking is a thrilling yet modern way of crossing the crags of Turkey while having fun, whilst a jeep safari opens up even the most inaccessible locations to the willing explorer.

Turkey being a large country, sometimes the best way to see it is from a bird's eye view. A hot air balloon soars high in the sky to give this view and dips down low enough to startle locales and to allow scrumping from the comfort of the balloon's basket. It also means that picturesque towns can be seen with just the sound of the wind and any companions to disturb you. Alternatively, paragliding is a faster way to exploit the thermals of Turkey's rich mountains to send one soaring high.

Whatever you are interested in, either because you already engage in it or wish to try something new, Turkey has something to offer everybody of all ages and skills throughout the year and further details can be found in this section.

Turkey property is very popular as it caters for everyone. Whether you want to visit in the spring, summer or winter there are always activities and sport in Turkey to keep you busy.
