Property in Turkey | The forests of Turkey
Over a quarter of Turkey is covered with forests, making it one of the greenest states in the region and a destination for those buying property in Turkey who admire the outdoors. Turkey is fortunate in lying in the corridor between the Mediterranean and Central Asia, making it a region which has some of the most biologically rich diversity on the planet. Its temperate and continental climate patterns also help create a mixture of florae that are well worth a visit. Covering nearly 21,000,000 hectares (51,000,000 acres), some unique features of Turkey's forests include the growth of Scots pine at 2,700m growing in a continental climate. Control of the forests of Turkey passed into state management in the 1950s and this has allowed a careful management of the woodlands, both for timber purposes and for tourism to develop. Under Turkey's programme to increase the amount of wooded land, there was even an increase in the amount of forests of Turkey from the end of the 1970s. There are several notable forests of Turkey worth visiting. This includes Yozgat pinewoods national park in the centre of Anatolia, this is said to be the only ancient pinewood forest to have survived into modern times. Kus Cenneti national park has 239 different bird species, which owing to migration patterns, means that there is a different offering of creatures on show throughout the year. For those who wish to see a park with interesting geological features, Koprulu national park has the river Kopru running through it, along with an interesting and diverse range of plantlife and wildlife to examine. For those who want a bit of variety in their tour, Karatepe Aslantas national park contains the ancient border of the Hittite empire, which reigned during the Bronze Age. It has many archaeological sites in addition to its foliage and forests. Similarly, Bogazkoy Alachoyuk also contains the ruined capital of this once mighty empire and has a museum to it. There are 9,000 plant species in Turkey, it also has 132 species of mammals, 450 species of birds and 106 species of reptiles, offering a wide range of sights to see. It also has some breathtaking mountains, rivers, glacial lakes, craters and forested areas that are well worth a visit. All areas of Turkey have forested regions, with the Black Sea region in particular, with its steep rocky coastal ranges and large rivers across the Pontic mountains rich in forests and coupled with the Kackar mountains remains almost separate to the rest of Anatolia so offers a different view available elsewhere. Wherever you go in Turkey, there is something to see of the natural life and many choose to hire holiday homes or buy property in Turkey as a base for their explorations, or even go to camp out in the rich, lush forests of Turkey. While most people go to forests of Turkey to look and leave no more than footprints, hunts can be arranged, though this is best arranged in advance and one should be aware of what species are protected by Turkish law. Property in Turkey is popular with those who love to experience the outdoors and the forests of Turkey and everything else this stunning country has to offer. |
