Golf in Turkey is now recognised internationally and the country viewed as a destination where players from around the world can meet in prestigious facilities and enjoy spectacular surroundings. Turkey was awarded ‘Best Golf Destination in Europe 2008’ by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) putting Turkey ahead of other European golfing hotspots including Spain and Scotland.
Above all, the resort of Belek, on the Mediterranean coast just 30km east of Antalya, is at the heart of golf in Turkey. The first golf course opened in 1994, since then Belek has established itself on the international golf circuit with top courses that include those designed by world famous golfers Colin Montgomerie and Nick Faldo. The area also has Turkey’s first pure links course - LykiaLinksGolf. All the courses are set in natural areas with the snow-capped Taurus Mountains as a backdrop. There are also golf courses situated outside Istanbul, Ankara and in the Mugla region.
Golf in Turkey normally requires handicap certificates, with a maximum of 28 for men and 36 for women. Soft spikes must also be worn. Turkey property allows golf lovers to enjoy the many stunning courses on the Turkish Riviera, especially in Belek.
Turkish coastal resorts benefit from 300 days of sunshine annually meaning that golfers can play throughout the year and enjoy warm temperatures during the winter months, the average temperature in Antalya in December is 16°C.
